The Holy Grail was finally summoned within Fuyuki. This Grail held the power to give anyone a wish that they most desired. This Grail became corrupted and was able to summon powerful servants: Grand Servants. There was to only be only one Grand Servant per Servant class: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, Berserker, Shielder, Ruler, Avenger. Solomon, the Grand Caster, took it upon himself to want control of the entire world and the grail. With his summon, he was able to convince Grand Rider, Grand Assassin and Grand Berserker to fight by his side. Together, they formed the "Grand Horsemen".
With the joining of the Grand Horsemen, there would have to be a group to hold them off. Grand Saber, Grand Lancer, Grand Archer and Grand Shielder formed the "Grand Knights" as a way to fight against the Grand Horsemen. These groups were now conducting their own form of a Holy Grail war. This time, their war would be global. These two servant teams began to enlist other servants of strength into their armies. This means that Grand Servants would become the generals of their armies and regular servants would become their foot soldiers. While Grand Servants didn't need a master to exist, servants still needed masters to stay in this world. Magus would become the energy source for their fellow servants.
Grand Ruler took to her role as the moderator of this new war. She was not apart of the war but was also not against it as well. Some servants and magus would be allowed to follow under the Grand Ruler. If this happens, they must enforce the rules of the war and cannot work for either side. Grand Avenger has yet to show itself in the war but many do believe that it's appearance could be the end of the war.
